Weight Loss Retreats

A weight loss retreat is a term used to describe a specific type of weight loss program. Weight loss retreats can be easily confused with fitness boot camps or health retreats. However, they are more a combination of the two and they serve a unique purpose. The best way to explain it is define each program, describing the differences and similarities.

Boot camps are group fitness classes that seek to push people a little bit further than they would normally push themselves alone. They are normally conducted outdoors but by gyms, fitness professionals or former military personnel. They promote fat loss through team effort and camaraderie. The exercises themselves tend to consist of bodyweight exercises or calisthenics such as push-ups, squats and burpees, along with running and competitive games.

The concept behind fitness boot camps is that everyone develops their fitness at their own paced whilst working as a team and being encouraged by team-members to push further and harder. Boot camps provide social support for those taking part. This provides a different environment for those exercisers who get bored in a gym and so find it hard to develop the initial habits required for regular exercise.

Health retreats are more focused on escapism and relieving stress. The term is synonymous with spa retreats or sometimes day spas. Health retreats are primarily short-term accommodation with additional inclusive services designed to develop healthy habits whilst relaxing the participants. Generally, over an extended stay, such retreats provide a comprehensive program including spa services, massage, physical fitness, healthy dining and health education.

Weight loss retreats provide luxury-style accommodation but with the sole purpose on removing the distractions that prevent people from making significant changes in their lives and losing weight. By letting you escape for a little while, they afford you the opportunity to remove and mental roadblocks and start on a weight loss program. Not just one that will last until Christmas, but one that will teach you the necessary habits and skills to continue a healthy lifestyle throughout the rest of your life.
